Westmalle's dark, reddish-brown Trappist beer, the Dubbel, has a rich and complex flavour thanks to secondary fermentation in the bottle. It is characterised by hints of caramel, malt and fruity esters reminiscent of ripe bananas. The first thing you notice about Westmalle Dubbel is the creamy, thick head. After drinking, it leaves a nice lacework in the glass. But the real memory of this balanced Trappist beer with its soft mouth feel is undoubtedly the long, dry aftertaste.
